August 27th — Well, I made it through 4 of my 12 Taxol/Herceptin chemo treatments. My counts are dropping across the board with my red, white and new white blood cells all lower than last week. I went from 1700 white blood cells to 1500, which is the minimum at which you can receive chemo. The shots are probably in my future to increase white blood cell counts, but my doctor reminded me that I was in the 25 percent of his patients who didn’t have bad side effects from the first round of A/C chemo treatments. I may be in the group that doesn’t have much bone pain with the daily shots. I’m still doing my acupuncture and herbs and prayer and meditation, but the reality is, we all know I do whatever I have to do. If I need the shots, I’ll take the shots and just deal with whatever side effects happen. I only have two more months of this nasty round of drugs and then have my plastic surgery to look forward to. As my two girlfriends who came to keep me company today at chemo said, “just think, Amy will have a bountiful Thanksgiving this year!” referring to my noticeably larger bustline.
Amy, I continue to hold you in prayer. I’m thankful that the shots didn’t begin today, and will pray that white blood cell counts rise.
Lots of love,
Sarah
